D.

So D. was a coworker at Duval Guillaume and that was all there was. An occasional “Hi” and “Hello” and a rare “what or where are you going to eat?”.
A couple of years after I left Duval Guillaume I got a phone call from him asking me If I was willing to take some portraits of him for the “Best Dressed Man-Competition”. I was puzzled that he turned to me for that, but he stated that he was very uncomfortable around photographers and that he would be easier for him if it was someone he already knew a bit and that he liked my work at that time. We made an entire series during the next months. He ended up winning the competition and my portraits were used in magazines. Both happy! But more important we got to know each other a bit better and that made a good base for mutual respect.

It was nice catching up again after a few years. I really enjoyed the 3 hours we spent together talking and photographing near Antwerp’s New South neighbourhood, chatting about the highs and lows of life and just having a little bit of fun. It’s so refreshing to have open conversations.
We ended with a couple of cappuccinos to get rid of the cold, perfect Sunday!
